Hi! We're Nikum and Jess, co-founders of the Worthy & True organization. In 2019 we moved to Nikum's birthplace of Cambodia to build high-quality schools for low-income families. We answered the call to sell everything and start this grassroots mission. In 2021, we opened our first Early Learning Center, in a village on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. Thanks to the generous support of people like you, we're able to provide high-quality and holistic education for children aged 3-5 years old and allow families to pay what they can afford. Not only that, we provide regular teacher training and a good living wage. We now have 4 staff members at the ELC who are the real backbone of all that we do. Tuition dollars from our school only cover 3 week's worth of food for our students, and we rely on the generosity of our monthly and one-time donors to cover operational costs and staff salaries.
We began the Made in Cambodia Collection 5 years ago periodically to originally fundraise for our school and subsequently to help offset some of the operational costs. This year we have been blessed with generous volunteers in the U.S. who will be able to ship out orders year round. This year, our lease at the school will end and we are preparing to fundraise and save money for a bigger building to accommodate more classrooms and hire more teachers.
Everything from the Made in Cambodia Collection is intentionally chosen, hand-made in Cambodia by women whom we've built relationships with over the past 5 years. These makers and creatives produce unique products that are ethically made. We approached them about partnering for this fundraiser and they were delighted to have the opportunity to send their products to the U.S. I am proud to introduce this collection on behalf of the creative women who we've come to know and love!
